The Snow

Boy, am I happy I live in South Carolina.  It may be colder than I like here, but at least we dodged the snow bullet that hit the northeast corridor.

I would be one unhappy traveler if an airline informed me that my flight was cancelled and I had to wait for two days for a seat.

This is the week that Anthony’s father drives down from New York and picks up six-year-old Anthony for his Christmas visit with the other side of the family.

Anthony’s father left Friday on his downward drive, hoping to beat the snowstorm and wound up spending the night by himself in his car in Virginia.

Saturday, he made it to Myrtle Beach, and Anthony left for his snow adventure.

Well, the aftermath of the blizzard was that the roads were still marginal up to New York, and he made a smart decision by stopping at a friend’s house in North Carolina until things calmed down.

That unplanned stay lasted until Monday morning, and late Monday night we received word that Anthony was enjoying a cheeseburger in a Friendly’s on Long Island.

A normal twelve-hour (one way) drive had taken four days.

This is only one story of thousands affected by the blizzard of 2009, the worst since 1978  and I remember that one.  And the toughest thing in a situation like that is to remain calm.
